A vintage Romanian cabinet, with carved geometric decoration and old green paint. The two doors are held in place by a charming wooden latch, strengthened at some point with a Romanian coin dated 1982. The doors open to reveal an interior with a shelf. A stylish and practical piece of storage, perfect for adding colour and character to your home!
This cabinet is from Maramures, an area in the north of Romania known for it’s rich folk heritage. The incised geometric forms are highly symbolic, offering protection to the home. On the left door is a circle representing the sun (see detail), one of the most important symbols in Romanian folk tradition. It has been continuously used as a symbol of protection since antiquity, when the Dacian people followed a solar cult.
