This spectacular casket was made in Transylvania in 1953. It was made in Tara Călatei, an area of Hungarian heritage nick-named ‘fancy country’ because of it’s ostentatious painted furniture.
It is painted with vases of tulips and garlands of flowers and decorated with mirrors. Inside the box are decoupage pictures of doves, angels, children and flowers, together with a Hungarian banner and a paper photo frame. There is a small compartment with a sliding top.
It measures 33 x 43 x 33 cm.
