A set of five nesting dolls, handmade and painted by artisans in Russia. They are carved and painted to look like cats, the largest two even have pointed ears. The smallest piece in the set is an adorable mouse.
Russian dolls are also known as Matryoshka, The first set was made In Russia at the end of the 19th century, inspired by nesting dolls from Japan. They became a popular symbol of Russia after they were sold at international exhibitions.
The dolls are carved from linden wood, painted with non-toxic paint and finished with a glossy lacquer. Each handmade set is unique, so there may be slight differences from the set pictured.
The largest doll measures approximately 16 x 8 x 8 cm.
